Background: Langley Productions was formed in 1983 as Barbour/Langley Productions by Malcolm Barbour and John Langley, the creators of Cops. In 1994, Barbour left the company, although it wasn't renamed Langley Productions until five years later.

Barbour/Langley Productions[]

(November 2, 1998-1999)

Logo: Criss-crossing on the background, "BARBOUR" and "LANGLEY" files in from left and right respectively as it backs away. "PRODUCTIONS, INC." rises in below as the "/" appears in pink, but turns to white when it adjusts and expands. The text swallows away into a slash, which turns into a "|". The top and bottom of "|" wipes out.

Variants:

  • On 1989-1992 episodes of Cops, the text fades out shortly after it forms.
    • On Season 1, and early Season 2 episodes of Cops, a copyright notice at the bottom of the screen.
  • On 1992-99 episodes of Cops, the logo, which was enhanced in Metel 3D, animates at a faster rate. The slash is now bigger. The shine of the names occurs shortly after the text is formed.

FX/SFX: The flying text.

Music/Sounds:

  • On 1989-93 episodes of Cops, a dramatic seven-note synth tune that begins with three descending notes followed by a fourth accompanied by a pound of some kind, then three more ascending notes follow.
    • In late 1992 with the short-lived series Code 3, the theme was shortened with a shorter pause after the fourth note.
  • In 1993, a southern guitar riff.

Availability: Seen on Cops episodes from the era, as well as American Expose: Who Murdered JFK?.

1st Logo (1999-2008)[]

Nicknames: "Still That Cops Logo", "The Second Cops Logo"

Logo: On a black screen, the letters in "LANGLEY" fly into place, scattered over the place. The word "PRODUCTIONS" then flips up, and the logo shines.

Variant: There is a variant that was seen in which the appearance of the letters were cut. The variant debuted in 2004 as a secondary variant before became the primary variant, which actually debuted in late 2005.

FX/SFX: Simple graphics.

Music/Sounds: Same as the second variant of the previous logo.

Music/Sound Variants:

  • A generic theme is heard on FOX airings.
  • On Street Patrol, a different guitar theme is used, which is sometimes abridged.

Availability: Appeared on Cops, Jail and Street Patrol.

2nd Logo (2008-June 3, 2018)[]

Nicknames: "Again, Still That Cops Logo", "The Third Cops Logo"

Logo: On a black background, we see a blue flash. This causes the words "LANGLEY PRODUCTIONS" to appear, in Avenir this time. Plus, "PRODUCTIONS" is in spaced-out letters.

FX/SFX: The flash.

Music/Sounds: The abridged music variant from the previous logo, but the generic Fox jingle plays over episodes that aired on Fox until 2013.

Availability: Started into use on Season 21 of Cops and was used together with the previous logo for a very brief time. It can also be seen on Jail.

3rd Logo (June 4, 2018-)[]

Nicknames: "The Cops Logo V", "The Langley Flash II"

Logo: On a black background, we see the same logo, but they flip and zoom out in the center, and they are in 3D and metallic colored.

FX/SFX: The logo zooming out.

Music/Sounds: Same as before.

Availability: Current. Appears on episodes of Cops since Season 31.
